Module 2: Learning Targets and Criteria for Success
Please post three overarching learning targets for our staff using the Dimensions of Learning framework and describe at least 5 criteria for success that we can expect to see in classrooms as it relates to the NC Teacher Evaluation Instrument and the Dimensions of Learning Framework. Remember, for the 'criteria for success', use "we will" statements.

We can create a positive attitude and perception of McMichael High School and maintain a safe and orderly learning environment.
-We will develop caring relationships with our students and work collaboratively with our parents and the community.
-We will develop lessons that allow for differentiated learning to ensure students are on task.
We can produce engaged 21st century learners through the use of common core standards.
-We will use formative assessment to ensure student success in the classroom.
-We will integrate technology by using our school's learning management system, Google Chromebooks and Web 2.0 tools.
We can collect,document, and analyze evidence of learning to increase student understanding of content.
-We will extend and refine student knowledge by analyzing formative and summative data.

• We will positively engage parents through parent contacts monthly
• We will have open house activities and invite parents and people from the community
• We will inform students of local resources within their communities
#2 Learning Target – We can have a variety of instructional methods that require students to be responsible
• We will have collaboration amongst departments on how to coordinate instruction
• We will encourage each other to have instruction that differs from ours
# 3 Learning Target – We can address the diversity amongst our students
• We will as a staff have some instruction on poverty and different priorities toward learning

1. We can increase our graduation rates by building more relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
2. We can effectively incorporate literacy into our individual curricular areas as addressed in Common Core and Essential Standards to meet the diverse individual needs of our students.
3. We can accept and implement 21st century techniques to prepare our students to be productive, effective, and competitive citizens.
Criteria for Success
1. We will collaborate within our departments to build a strong foundation and promote a united culture of learning.
2. We will seek knowledge from our colleagues that have special knowledge on various topics and work as a team to develop a culture that focuses on helping all of our students (i.e Media and Technology, EC department, Guidance Office, Administration).
3. We will collaborate across curricular areas with colleagues focusing on individual student needs, specifically at risk students. (How are they doing in their other courses? What is making them successful?)
4. We will concentrate on the engagement of students in our classes by understanding how they learn best and tailoring lesson plans to meet those needs including using a learning management system in our 1:1 environment and implementing PBL in our lessons.
5. We will reflect, analyze, and accept constructive feedback, understanding that there are always practices that we can improve on.

4. We will prepare our students to become globally competitive by helping them to develop 21st century skills with a focus on technology.
5. We will help students to learn modes and practice the skills so that they can develop habits of a healthy mind.

Criteria for Success:
1.We will require at least one contact between family/guardian and teacher each semester.
2.We will reach at least 85% student engagement with each lesson.
3.We will integrate more technology in our lessons.
4.We will provide opportunities for students and community lessons to interact.
5.We will use student-based learning and projects to improve student engagement.

Learning Target 1:
We can develop 21st century learners.
* We will do this by using a LMS.
* We will integrate our 1:1 initiative in a blended learning environment.
Learning Target 2:
We can help our students to become organized and collaborate in a variety of learning endeavors.
* We will have at least 1 PBL activity in each course.
Learning Target 3:
We can help students become self motivated learners.
* We will offer PBL activities to extend their learning according to their interests.
* We will integrate technological tools (facebook, twitter, tablets, etc.) to extend learning beyond the classroom.

ReplyDeleteLearning Target 1 – We will post clear, well defined expectations of student conduct in classroom.
Learning Target 2 – We will collaborate with cross curricular staff members to better meet the individual needs of each student.
Learning Target 3 – Teachers will support and enable community outreach implementing the curriculum used in each classroom.
Criteria for Success 1 –Students will be engaged and AWAKE for the entirety of the 90 minute period.
Criteria for Success 2 – Using modern technology, teachers will discuss the progress of students in need.
Criteria for Success 3 – Invite and enable parents to participate in the learning process via instructional technology.
Criteria for Success 4 – Create projects for students that encourage involvement within the community and the rest of the school body.
Criteria for Success 5 – Teachers will work in collaboration with other curricula to plan assignments that cross the ordinary borders of learning.

1. We can create a positive and safe student center learning environment throughout all classrooms at DMHS.
a. We will use more student based projects to engage students in each lesson.
b. We will modify instruction to fit the needs of all students and their learning styles within lessons and projects.
2. We can improve student literacy and vocabulary in all curricula.
a. We will access student literacy—general and content-specific—three times a semester to track growth within our classrooms.
b. We will develop a school-wide campaign to teach students import roots, prefixes, and suffixes and how to use them to decode new words.
3. We can integrate 21st century technology skills into our classrooms to better prepare our students for the world of work and higher education.
a. We will use a learning management system in each classroom.
b. We will integrate the use of Google chrome books into our classrooms using web 2.0 tools on the Internet to teach our curriculum and students to finish projects.

1 – We can provide an environment in which each child has a positive, nurturing relationship with caring adults.
2 – We can embrace diversity in the school community and in the world.
3 – We can make instruction relevant to students.
5 criteria for successes:
1 – We will model a positive, nurturing relationship within our staff and community – showing respect for others: collaboration, dialogue, citizenship (common accepted values), supporting other curricula (downing the negative perception of other classes).
2 – We will be life-long learners: implementing new knowledge, attending professional developments, belonging and participating in professional organizations, cross-curriculum collaboration, and willingness to promote learning about another culture including language.
3 – We will connect learning to student’s future, we will use personal examples in classroom to promote better understanding, strive to learn more about our students – using interest surveys, etc., incorporate more project based learning – allowing students some flexibility in selecting relevant topic/content/mode.
4 – We will recognize different learning styles, cultures, and needs by communicating with designated staff (guidance, ESL, EC, social worker, parents), differentiate instruction using a variety of modes, and integrate best practices – based on research and reflection.
5 – We will follow Rockingham County School Board policies and McMichael policies consistently for all students.
